The mountainous horizon of a Japanese landscape is translated into the vertical contours of the totems. Inspired by stories of the rituals of the indigenous cultures of West Africa and Japan, I wanted to sculpt the space to again convey the tensions of polarities - female/male and open/closed - to interpret renewal and transformation in our lives.
